Camp Crossed Arrows

For girls entering 7th - 12th grades

Level 1 or 2
The Camp Crossed Arrows Horsemanship Program gives girls of all ages and abilities a chance to ride and care for horses in a safe, fun and challenging way! If you’re ready to saddle up and ride, and participate in other traditional camp activities, check out sessions offered for your age group below.
Parents: Girls are placed into our program based on age AND ability. Please refer first to entering grade levels, and then select a Riding Level within the age group. Beginning, young or nervous riders start at Level 1 and will ride at least twice during their session (riders with experience outside our program, contact us directly to be placed into a level). As riders progress, we offer more lesson time and introduce new skills. All riders will leave with a Riding Progress Report showing their accomplishments and exiting riding Level. Girls aren’t guaranteed to move up in level each year. We teach riding from the “ground up” rather than “saddle down” and a portion of each lesson (lessons include 1-2 hours of time at the barn) is spent on barn chores because we feel it’s important for girls to accept responsibility for caring for their horses.
Housing: This unit has 9 screened cabins that can accommodate 4 campers per cabin. Camp counselors stay in the cabin located in the middle of the unit. The unit’s bathhouse, with hot showers, is centrally located. Please note that we discourage groups of 3  campers in our cabin units due to one girl possibly being left out. Please discuss this policy of 2 or 4 buddies with your campers before arrival.

About Camp Crossed Arrows: Camp Crossed Arrows is hidden away in the Ozark hills between Searcy and Batesville. The camp’s 400 acres host a swimming pool, arts and crafts area that doubles as an underground shelter, natural rock climbing, canoeing on Salado Creek, hiking trails, archery, BB guns, and slingshots, dining hall and three living units. Camp Crossed Arrows is also home to the council’s horsemanship Program, offering riding sessions for girls of all experience levels. If horses aren’twhat interests your camper the most, she may choose another themed session offering all kinds of traditional camp activities! Every camper who attends Camp Crossed Arrows will be offered thechance to ride a horse at least once.
